What's the "R" Factor at Your Dock?
Risk - The risk of accidents due to unexpected trailer separation from the loading dock is an ever-present danger. Have your dock attendants or forklift drivers been involved in an accident or near accident? Does your company utilize an internal/external light communication system at the loading dock? Does your company receive trailers with air ride suspensions at the loading dock?
Responsibility - It's the law; OSHA makes it mandatory to restrain trailers while loading and unloading occurs at your dock. Does your company restrain (with wheel chocks or a mechanical trailer restraint) every trailer before loading or unloading takes place?
Reality - The fact is, over 100 fatal work injuries involving forklifts occur during the average year. Wheel chocks, if present, are not always used nor are they effective at preventing trailer departure. Also, some impact style mechanical Truck Restraints may actually damage a trailer's rear underride guard reducing its structural integrity.
Response - Non-impact designed restraints like the Kelley Truk Stop® Star restraints are superior to wheel chocks and are effective at hooking a trailer's underride guard without the risk of impact damage.

The Kelley Truk Stop® Star TRUCK RESTRAINTS are the best performing and least costly mechanical restraints to operate. The simplicity of design, non-impact operation, low maintenance and 10 year guarantee make them the most popular truck restraint on the market.
There are four models of Star Truck Restraints available, with options, all easy to install and require virtually no maintenance.
The manually operated Star 1 truck restraint offers excellent performance and value with simple, manual non-impact operation. The Star 1 truck restraint works with all types of ICC bars and docklevelers, and has an operating range from 11" to 30". It requires virtually no maintenance, is easy to install and has printed communication signs. Optional interior/exterior Truk Alert light system for better communication is available.
An exceptional value, the Star 2 model truck restraint offers manual operation plus the exclusive sensor bar and the industry's most effective communication system.
The patented sensor bar communicates actual hook contact with the ICC bar and includes inside and outside red/green light communication system.
Optional is an audible alarm that sounds if the restraining arm does not contact ICC bar and a pushbutton reset.
The hydraulic Star 4 and Star 5 truck restraint models provide smooth dependable hydraulic operation plus the most sophisticated communication system offered by Kelley. The patented sensor bar communicates actual hook contact with the ICC bar and includes signs and inside and outside red/green light communication system.
Besides incorporating the features of the other restraints, the Star 4 and Star 5 offer a higher degree of automation and convenience. The restraining arm is raised and lowered automatically at the touch of a button, and programmable solid state controls mean more flexibility.
The Star 5 truck restraint model includes an audible alarm alert if sensor bar/ICC bar contact is not made, LED indicators to monitor status of lights and inside light guards to protect red and green lenses.
Options for both the Star 4 and Star 5 include; a Lip Limit Switch that automatically activates unit when dockleveler lip is extended, Key Switch Override for alarm system, and a "Don't Move" light package as an alternative to the standard red/green outside light display.
The Kelley Truk Stop® Star Truck Restraining devices are compatible with new federally regulated override guards (49CFR Part 571 FMVSS224) and have a restraining force of 30,000 lbs. These devices will hold any style ICC bar with an operating range from 11" to 30" above the drive. Optional Stand Off is for use with Edge-of-Dock levelers or dock bumpers that exceed 4".
These truck restraining devices have a 10 year no impact damage guarantee,

One of the most common causes of dock accidents is vehicles which are not properly secured before loading. Serco offers a full line of restraints that can make loading and unloading all kinds of vehicles safer for your workforce.
Serco restraints successfully integrate powerful and effective restraints with instantaneous, clear, non-verbal communications systems for dock operators and drivers. The result is a new level of safety and enhanced productivity on the dock.
PitBull® Safety-Loc® Vehicle Restraints
To guard against premature departure, trailer creep and trailer walk, Serco has designed the PitBull Safety-Loc Series. The PitBull has a bite that locks on tight, engaging a trailer’s rear impact guard and securing it more effectively than rubber wheel chocks. Serco PitBull Safety-Loc restraints are most compatible with the new rear impact guards because of their non-impact, low-profile design.
Serco Safety-Loc® SLP Recessed Restraint
The Serco Safety-Loc SLP Restraint is a hydraulically actuated, recessed, non-impact vehicle restraint ideal for new construction or remodeling applications. The SLP is installed in a pit under the leveler and, when retracted, offers a clean dock face, allowing unobstructed access to smaller delivery vehicles, trailers with hydraulic lift gates and an open drive for unimpeded snow plowing or drive cleanup. The hydraulically activated SLP effectively controls vehicle movement by grabbing and holding the rear impact guard throughout the loading/unloading process.
